Body of 77-year-old Man Found in Frederiksted

A body identified by police as Charles Stapleton, 77, of Estate Mon Bijou, was found Wednesday morning in a submerged car in Frederiksted.

According to the V.I. Police Department, 911 dispatchers received a call at 5:52 a.m. reporting a white pickup truck that was found submerged in the sea, in the vicinity of the Frederiksted Fish Market. A male body was inside.

Responding officers confirmed the report and were successful in removing the vehicle from the waters. Emergency medical technicians found no signs of life in the occupant.

The deceased was identified as Stapleton. Preliminary investigation revealed no apparent foul play and the case is being treated as a “Dead On Arrival” pending the results of an autopsy.

Detectives continue to investigate.
