Arrest Made in Two-Year-Old Case

V.I. Police officers on Friday arrested Jose Saldana Jr. in connection with a two-year-old case.

Saldana was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 12:18 p.m. on a bench warrant issued by Superior Court Judge Miguel Camacho. The warrant charged Saldana with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.

The news release from the V.I. Police Department did not give any details of the crime Saldana is alleged to have committed, including the date. The department said aspects of the case are still under investigation.

Bail was set at $150,000 and Saldana was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

“The criminal acts perpetrated by Saldana occurred two years ago and it’s due to the dogged determination and diligence of individuals within the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Major Crimes Unit along with members of the community providing tips that this arrest came about," St. Croix Police Chief Arthur Hector Sr. said. "The collaborative effort between police and the community was instrumental in this arrest and must continue. The arrest in this case is proof positive to those families awaiting closure on their pending cases, that solving crimes may take some time, but we, here at the VIPD are dedicated to ensure closure on all of our open cases.”
