Gail Leung, 57, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court on St. Croix to one count of manufacturing marijuana, U.S. Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced in a news release Friday.
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on May 28, 2014, Leung knowingly and intentionally grew marijuana on her property in Frederiksted. Law enforcement agents discovered 200 marijuana plants growing on the property.
As part of her plea agreement, Leung also agreed to forfeit $3,000 to the United States. Leung faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has been set for Oct. 14.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rhonda Williams-Henry, Sharpe said.
