Assault Reported in Frederiksted

Police on Monday began investigating an assault that took place late Friday night but was not reported for two days.

At 10:25 a.m. Monday the 911 emergency call center received notification of an assault victim being treated at the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital’s emergency room. Arriving at the hospital, officers met with the victim, whose name was not released by police.

The man told officers he had been at the Frederiksted Vegetable Market at about 10 p.m. Friday, playing a heated game of dice, when he was struck from behind by an unknown assailant. The victim said he had no idea what he was hit with but that he fell unconscious, striking the ground.

Regaining consciousness, the victim discovered that his mobile phone, phone charger and $500 in cash had been taken from him.

The victim didn’t report the incident to the police, nor did he seek medical attention at the time. However, with the swelling to the back of his head and his left eye, in addition to his feeling extreme pain to his right hip and lower leg, he aid he decided to seek medical attention.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident.
