Crime Stoppers: Three Unsolved Crimes

Crime Stoppers asks your help to make the Virgin Islands a safer place to live, work and raise a family. If you know something, say something.

St. Thomas: On Sept. 24, 2013, at approximately 6:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to Hospital Ground near Tickle Nickle Bar regarding shots fired. Officers discovered an unresponsive black male lying face up on the roadway and bleeding from the upper torso. EMTs informed the officers that the male, identified as 27-year-old Avery Martin of Contant Towers, had succumbed to his injuries.

St. John: On March 5 at approximately 10:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to Westin Resort regarding an assault. Upon arrival, a man stated that he had been assaulted by an unknown black male in the Fish Bay area. The victim stated that while attempting to park his vehicle to go to the beach, a male mumbled something indistinguishable and then hurled two rocks through his opened car window, with one striking him in the face. He then quickly drove to the Westin Resort and sought help.

St. Croix: On March 12 in the early afternoon, Vernon James Jr. of Estate Richmond was shot once. His lifeless body was found on a residential block between the David H. Jackson Terrace and the abandoned Ralph de Chabert housing community. Police SWAT team was unsuccessful in canvassing the area, including the abandoned apartments, for the suspect or suspects.
