Burglary Reported in Mutual Homes

A burglar broke into a home Sunday night in the Mutual Apartments near Frederiksted while the resident slept in an adjoining room.

According to the V.I. Police Department report, the victim had been entertaining a relative, who left at about 11 p.m. The victim locked the bottom lock of her door, but did not engage the security latch before she went to bed and fell asleep.

At 2:15 a.m. she was awakened by a presence in her room and observed a black man, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, dressed all in black with a mask covering his face. The individual stood in her room, watching her as she screamed. He then slowly walked out of her bedroom, exiting the apartment through the front door and leaving it open, she said.

The intruder had stolen a chip from the victim’s telephone, police said.

The victim believes the intruder may have gained entry into the apartment by use of the key, which may have been accidentally left in the front door and has not been recovered.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau continues to investigate the incident.
