Dispute Results in Fatal Shooting

A man was shot just before midnight Sunday at Lindbergh Bay and later died of his wound, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the 17th homicide on St. Thomas since the start of the year, the 36th in the territory.

According to the initial police report, officers were dispatched to Lindbergh Bay to respond to a report of a shooting While traveling to the scene, officers learned that a man suffering from a gunshot wound was being taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle.

Officers were then dispatched to the hospital as well as the crime scene.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Vasquez. He was treated by medical staff and died at the hospital. Officers said Vasquez may have been involved in a physical altercation with another man at Lindberg Bay when he was shot.
