Farmers market sales will resume Saturday at the Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow in the Rothschild Francis Market Square on St. Thomas, and sales will stop at the Emancipation Garden, Agriculture Commissioner Louis E. Petersen Jr. announced.
The use of the Emancipation Garden location was a short-term temporary arrangement while renovation of Rothschild Francis Market Square was ongoing, Petersen said.
Petersen expressed appreciation to the farmers, fishermen and the general public for their patience during the work. He also thanked the Office of the Governor, the Department of Public Works, the Virgin Islands Police Department, the State Historic Preservation Office, the V.I. Waste Management Authority and the Office of Senator Myron Jackson for their support during the project.
“Despite the numerous challenges, I am confident that with everyone’s support and cooperation the final outcome of the construction and renovation project will enhance the beauty and promote economic development in downtown St. Thomas,” Petersen said.
The Department of Agriculture encourages the public to come out to the square, especially the Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow, to support local farmers and fishermen and to enjoy the renovated area.
