V.I. Boxers Set Argentine TV Ratings Record

As Virgin Islands boxers John Jackson and Julius Jackson celebrated recent wins from bouts in Argentina, the television company that broadcasted the fights said a record number of viewers had tuned in to watch the bouts.

According to an article on the website, boxingscene.com, the Jacksons’ Dec. 7 fights "surpassed all expectations and set a record for boxing TV viewership ratings in Argentina."

"The broadcast did tremendously well in the ratings inspite of the anonymity of the islanders in Argentina," the article said. "The event was televised to all of South America and North America by Argentine cable giant TyC Sport as part of its ‘Boxeo de Primera’ series. Noting that in Argentina the ratings are only measured by the viewership of the greater Buenos Aires area, a 1.08 rating was achieved, which, during the five-hour period, peaked to an unbelieveable 1.36."

The Jackson brothers and their 340 Boxing partner Samuel Rogers were the main attractions on the on the five-bout fight card, which took place at the historic Chateau Carreras Olympic Stadium in Cordoba. The event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the town’s legendary soccer club. Julius Jackson, along with Rogers, fought for vacant WBA Fedebol titles in their respective weight clases.

During the fight, Julius Jackson (17-0, 13 KOs) achieved a ninth-round TKO over the previously undefeated Nicolas Dario Lopez (10-1, 4 KOs,) earning him the vacant WBA Fedebol Super Middleweight title.

Rogers (14-1, 8 KOs) lost his fight to Argentina’s Carlos Adan Jerez (38-16-3, 18 KOs.) The bout went the full 10 rounds, and ended in a split decision.
