Deborah Jan Karlin Dies at 62

Deborah Jan Karlin Deborah Jan Karlin of Estate Wintberg died at home on Dec. 3. She was 62.
Deborah Karlin received her R.N. degree from George Washington University and worked in noted hospitals such as Parkland, in Dallas, Texas and Cabrini Green in Chicago, Illinois. She was doing private consulting when she first visited the Virgin Islands and decided to remain there in 1981. In 1998, she earned a dual Masters degree from Syracuse University and began practice as an adult nurse practitioner and an instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands.
During the period she was earning her degree, she became increasingly involved in responding to the HIV epidemic, providing primary care to clients throughout the Caribbean. Her efforts exemplified her fierce commitment to her profession and her insistence on providing quality care to all.
She is survived by her daughters: Shana and Alexis; ex-husband, Dr. Henry Karlin; mother; sisters; special friend, Cheryl Holmberg; as well as other friends and relatives.
