Man Charged with Child Abuse in Champagne Incident

Gil Francisco-JavierA 29-year-old man was charged with child abuse/domestic violence when witnesses saw him put a bottle of champagne to his two-year-old daughter’s mouth and trying to make her drink it, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Police said when the toddler refused to drink the champagne, the father poured the alcohol on her.

The incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Nov. 25 in the Jiffy Mart Parking lot in Christiansted, St. Croix, police said.

Police arrested Gil Francisco-Javier of Estate Richmond and charged him with the abuse of a child. He was held without bail according to domestic violence laws.
