Christmas Card Competition for Elementary Schools

The Crown Bay Center Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal is inviting all St. Thomas elementary schools to participate in a Christmas card decorating contest, according to the V.I. Port Authority.

The contest is open to all elementary schools on St. Thomas and should depict a scene or local tradition of Christmas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Submissions will be accepted through Dec. 13. The school that wins first place receives $500 and the student gets a blue ribbon.

Second place gets $250 for the school and a red ribbon for the student. Third place wins $150 for the school and a green ribbon for the student.

The top three winners will all get holiday parties for their whole class.

VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe said that the merchants of Crown Bay Center sponsored prizes for the contest. “The Port Authority and the merchants of Crown Bay Center are excited to engage our students in decorating our cruise port for the holiday season,” he said.

“We challenge them to create beautiful, unique images of our island. We hope that this contest encourages creativity and we are anxious to see the submissions,” Dowe said.

The rules for the contest are:
— The holiday cards must be on an 8-by-10-inch sheet of paper;
— Cards must maintain a holiday theme;
— Artwork must be student’s original idea and done by the student;
— Each school must submit all entries from their school at the same time;
— Entries must be labeled with the student’s name, teacher’s name and grade. Cards not labeled will be disqualified;
— All cards must be submitted to the Crown Bay Center Management office. The mailing address is 8268 Crown Bay Center 161-A Subbase, St. Thomas, VI 00802;
— All cards must be submitted through the school’s administration on or before Dec. 13 to the Crown Bay Center Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal management office on St. Thomas by noon.
