Heineken Open Tennis Championships Announces Winners

Winners were determined this weekend for the 4th Annual Heineken Open Tennis Championships held at the Tennis Club of St. Croix. Entrants from across St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Puerto Rico participated in the 13-day event in Mixed, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and Men’s and Women’s Singles. A Men’s Open Singles event was the highlight of the event with top players battling it out for a $1,000 cash purse. Angel Diaz defeated Freddy Velez and took the coveted Open event. Both players are from Puerto Rico. Other winners during the event were as follows:
Mixed A Doubles: Caroline Ward and Carlos Rosas from St.Croix
Mixed B Doubles: Debbie Woodson and Michael Armendariz from St. Croix *
Men’s A Doubles: Shane Dalton from St. Croix and Freddy Velez from Puerto Rico
Men’s B Doubles: Al Baptiste and Wendell Powell from St. Croix *
Women’s A Doubles: Susan Armstrong and Karen Heckman from St. Croix
Women’s B Doubles: Flo Logan and Debbie Schreiber from St. Croix
Men’s A Singles: Alex Elizee from St. Croix *
Men’s B Singles: Elmer Aquierlo from St. Croix
Women’s A Singles: Flavia Logie from St. Croix
Women’s B Singles: Greeba Richmond from St. John
Men’s 50+ Doubles: Don DeWilde and Colin Robertson
