The State Office of Special Nutrition Programs has announced the availability of the following federally-funded meal programs for School Year 2013-2014, according to a press release issued Friday by the V.I. Department of Education.
School Breakfast Program (SBP)
National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
Special Milk Program (SMP)
At-Risk After School Snack Program (AASP)
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)
Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
Organizations interested in participating in any of the meal programs must meet the following description(s):
• Public or private nonprofit authority legally constituted within a state for either administrative control or direction of elementary school or secondary schools
• Other public or private nonprofit institution or agency having administrative control and direction of a residential child care institution
• Public or private nonprofit residential summer camp or a private nonprofit organization which develops a special summer or other school vacation program
• Public or private nonprofit institution or facility (except day care homes), or any for-profit center that is licensed or approved to provide nonresidential child care services to enrolled children, primarily of preschool age, including but not limited to day care centers, settlement houses, neighborhood centers, Head Start centers and organizations providing day care services for children with disabilities
• Public or private nonprofit organization that is participating or is eligible to participate in the CACFP as an institution or as a sponsored facility and that provides nonresidential child care to children after school through an approved afterschool care program
• Charitable Institutions such as public institutions or nonprofit organizations that provide a meal service on a regular basis to predominantly needy persons in the same place without marked changes. Charitable institutions include, but are not limited to emergency shelters, soup kitchens, hospitals, retirement homes, elderly nutrition projects, schools, summer camps, service institutions, and child and adult care institutions that do not participate in a child nutrition program or as a commodity school, and adult correctional institutions that conduct rehabilitation programs for a majority of inmates
