Samuel Henry James Sr. Dies at 71

Samuel Henry James Sr. Samuel Henry James Sr., also known as “Brother James,” died on Friday, Oct. 4, in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He was born on Aug. 31, 1942, in Union Village, Saint Vincent, to Estalita “Baby” James and James Sutherland.
Samuel was a building contractor and served as deacon/senior deacon at Frederiksted Assembly of God Church for over three decades.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents: Estalita “Baby” James and James Sutherland; brothers: Esau James and Samuel James; sister, Olga James; and niece, Ellie.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Louise James; sons: Prince Joseph, Samuel James Jr., David James, Keith James and John James; stepson, Derrick Williams; daughters: Sherline Louis and Julia James; stepdaughter, Antonia Williams; son-in-law, Michael Louis Sr.; grandchildren: Michael Louis Jr., Sherline “Deenelle” Louis and Shanda Joseph; step-grandchildren: Robert Williams, Antonia Williams and Krystal Williams; sisters: Tellie Charles and Lazarene James; brothers: Kenrick James and Jacob “Nang” James; as well as numerous nieces and nephews including: Cherry, Suzie, Aneisha, Teresa, Lorraine, Patricia, Cecil “Tash,” Wendel, Angie, Carl, Nigel and many others on St. Croix and St. Vincent, and in the U.S.
He is also survived by his uncle, Wessmore “Wessy” James; cousin, Deon Roberts; sisters-in-law: Daphne Lewis and Heather Williams; brothers-in-law: Kingsley John, Sylvester Williams, Oral “Fonso” Williams, Claudius Williams, Anthony Williams and Vincent “Darkie” Greene; godchildren: Kay Jackson and Aaliyah George; close friends: Patterson Thomas, Eardley John, Vincent Liger and their families, Pastor Liburd and Patsy Liburd, James Charles and family, Leroy Peters and family, Wadsworth and Leona Bowers, Eldon Providence and family, The Assemblies of God family, Ida Pompey and family, Agnes Walters and family, Sydney James and family; and many other family, friends and relatives on St. Croix, St. Vincent, Tortola and in the U.S.
There will be a viewing from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at James Memorial Funeral Home’s Chapel. The Home Going Service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Frederiksted Assembly of God Church, 144-145C Estate Campo Rico. The viewing will commence at 9 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
