With the 2013-14 school year now under way, the fifth annual Summer Reading Challenge, which encouraged students from kindergarten to eighth grade to spend their summer vacations reading, has ended.
Tracking sheets were accepted through Friday by schoolteachers and school librarians and could be submitted electronically at www.readfive.org.
Students who read a minimum of five books during the summer will be invited to a fun day with the governor, one held in each district, where students will be recognized with awards and prizes.
The school with the most participants will receive a special prize.
The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge is a partnership between the Department of Education, Office of the Governor, V.I. Public Library and the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands’ Family Connection.
