Man Fatally Shot on Back Street

A man was shot and killed early Saturday on Back Street on St. Thomas, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was later identified as 41-year-old Gregory LaBlanc of Estate Wintberg. It was the 22nd homicide of the year in the territory, the the ninth on St. Thomas.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired at about 1:25 a.m. Saturday. Emergency medical personnel on the scene said the victim had gunshot injuries and they could not detect any vital signs.

Detectives from the Major Crime unit canvassed the area for witnesses and forensic detectives processed the scene for evidence.
