UVI to Unveil Reichhold Center’s 35th Season at ‘Business After Hours’ on Thursday, Aug. 22 UVI’s Reichhold Center for the Arts and the St. Thomas/St. John Chamber of Commerce invite the public to the exclusive unveiling of the Reichhold Center’s 35th anniversary 2013-2014 season line-up at “Business After Hours” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 22. The event will take place at the Reichhold Center across from Brewers Beach at UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. This will be the first opportunity for the public to preview scheduled performances for the Reichhold’s upcoming season and to purchase tickets. St. Thomas Office of UVI’s University Bound Program Closed Through Sept. 6 UVI University Bound Program office on the St. Thomas campus will be closed from Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Sept. 6. The office will re-open on Monday, Sept. 9. The program’s St. Croix office will remain open on its regular schedule throughout this period.
UVI CELL to Offer Basics of Real Estate Course on St. Croix, St. Thomas Individuals interested in learning more about the real estate industry are being urged to register for the Real Estate course offered by the University of the Virgin Islands Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center.
On St. Croix, classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Sept. 3, at the Joseph A. Simpson Building, No. 23A Hospital Street in Frederiksted. On St. Thomas, classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 5, at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus.
The course is designed to expose individuals to the real estate industry. It specifically prepares them to take the Real Estate Salesperson licensing examination. A variety of topics will be covered including real estate theory, mathematics, USVI rules and regulations, and applicable sections of the V.I. Code. RTPark/RTPark-PC Executive Committee to Meet Aug. 23 The Executive Committee of UVI’s RTPark/RTPark Protected Cell Corporation is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. (AST) on Friday, Aug. 23. Music Recital Series to Begin Sunday, Sept. 8, at Nisky Moravian Church The Ann Elizabeth Richardson Distinguished Professor of Music Recital Series begins Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Nisky Moravian Church on St. Thomas. The inaugural recital will be presented by Janice R. Jackson, soprano, and Dr. Lorna C. Young-Wright, pianist/composer. Works will include those of William Grant Still, Undine Smith Moore, and Lorna C. Young-Wright. The recital is free and begins at 4 p.m. Dr. Young-Wright will present a pre-recital lecture on recital works at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Music Building on the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus. All are welcome. The series will continue during UVI’s fall semester. For more information, call 693-1191.
V.I. Water Resources Research Institute Seeking Proposals for 2014-15 Program Year The Virgin Islands Water Resources Research Institute (VI-WRRI) is accepting proposals for projects that address water resources issues in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The proposals will be considered for the 2014–2015 program year. All faculty and staff of the University of the Virgin Islands are eligible to apply for funding through the VI-WRRI. Collaborations with non-UVI personnel are allowed. The Call for Proposals and links to the National Institutes for Water Resources Web site are available from the WRRI section of the UVI Web site – http://www.uvi.edu – and from this direct link. UVI Labor Day Invitational Volleyball Tourney Begins Aug. 30 at Sports and Fitness Center The UVI Athletic Department will host the 2013 edition of the UVI Annual Labor Day Invitational Volleyball Tournament for Virgin Islands club teams and visiting squads from the Caribbean and U.S. mainland from Friday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 1.
U.S.-based teams will be coming from California, Washington D.C., and Utah (the Mountain West Club). Caribbean squads are expected from the British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts, St. Marten, St. Croix, and St. Thomas, along with UVI’s Buccaneer men’s and women’s squads. Round-robin format play begins at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30, in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. Matches continue on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by the championship matches slated for Sunday, Sept. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. The tournament is sponsored by Subway of the Virgin Islands, radio station 107.9 DaVybe and the UVI Athletic Department. UVI’s Historical Publication ‘Proud We Are’ Now on Sale on St. Thomas and St. Croix Copies of the UVI historical publication “Proud We Are” are now available in the UVI Bookstores on both campuses and in the Office of Institutional Advancement on St. Croix. Additionally, they are available from The Owl and the Seahorse in the Monsanto Marine Terminal in Crown Bay on St. Thomas and at the Happy Booker on King Street on St. Croix. The price of the book is $50. They will be available at additional outlets, shortly. Visit one of these locations to purchase your copy.
