Police Investigate Shootings, None Fatal

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Thomas are investigating two unrelated non-fatal shootings and the theft of a firearm over the weekend.

  • A 32-year-old shooting victim told police he drove into Tutu Highrise at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. As he was getting out of his car he was shot. The victim said he sped away from the area and went to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries to his left arm and the left side of his abdomen. The victim said he did not see who shot him.
  • A 52-year-old man told police Saturday that he was riding a bicycle westward on Main Street at about 7 p.m. when he heard about four gunshots. He began to pedal faster and then realized that he had been struck in his right leg. He was treated at the Schneider Regional Medical Center. The victim told police that he did not know who shot him nor any reason anyone would want to shoot him.
  • Police are also investigating a report of a stolen licensed firearm. The owner of the weapon told police that at about 6:30 Sunday he parked his vehicle on Nye Gade. When he returned, he saw the front passenger window was broken and his licensed Beretta was stolen. Police reminded licensed gun holders to properly secure their weapons so they do not fall into the wrong hands. The case is being followed up by Investigation Bureau detectives.
