Results of Two-Time Trial June 16 Race, Olympic Day Run Set for June 22

On Sunday, June 16, several dads among many others competed with a partner in the Virgin Islands Pace Runners’Two-Person Time Trial race from Cramer’s Park to Ha’Penny and back. Six teams formed to take on the wind and hills of the challenging 22.5-mile course along the South Shore. One team of Master riders, Fred Rollins and Peter Duthie, took on the shorter course of 14 miles.
Fresh off of his second place finish in the St. John Carnival Road Race on Saturday, Mark Defour and his teammate Glenn Massiah proved to be the fastest. They crossed the line in 1:01:47. Team Red Boots, Sue Brown and Troy Holloway, was second in 1:03:12; the team of Deve Barbour and Narian Gentius was third in 1:04:59. Attached are the full results.
Congratulations also goes to Apple Acevedo for his third place finish in the St. John Carnival race, to Apolinar Acevedo for his fifth place finish and to Laverne Fredericksen for her second place finish in the women’s category.
This Saturday, June 22, is the celebration of Olympism and the V.I. Pace Runners gives thanks to the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee for the support and funds it has given the federation over the years. Members of each federation in the Virgin Islands are encouraged to participate. The 27th Olympic Day Run will be held at 5 p.m. at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School track on St. Croix. Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are invited take part.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. Walkers will start at 5 p.m. and complete four laps around the track, followed by the 15-minute per mile group, then 10-minute per mile group, then 8-minute per mile, then 7-minute per mile and then finish with the 6-minute per mile and faster group.
There is no entry fee. Each participant will receive an official time for completing the one-mile distance and the number of calories burned. The first 100 participants will be given a special Olympic Day T-shirt, a special Olympic Day Certificate and a Virgin Islands Olympic pin.
