CEKA Reopens Runway After Fixing Lights

The runway at Cyril E. King Airport was reopened shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday after the fault in the airport’s runway lights was repaired.

Virgin Islands Port Authority Executive Director Carlton Dowe announced that a "Notice to Airmen" was issued at 1:08 a.m. to reopen the runway and inform airlines that the runway lights were functioning properly.

The CEKA runway had been closed at 7:30 p.m. Monday due to a malfunction of the runway lighting system.

Dowe said he is awaiting a full report from Port Authority’s aviation, engineering and maintenance staff, which he expects to receive later today, regarding the reason for the failure.
