Shooting Claims life of 18-year-old Vasheo Donastorg

Vasheo Donastorg, an 18-year-old from St. Thomas, was shot and killed Monday night on Lime Street in Estate Tutu, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the eighth homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the fifth on St. Thomas.

According to the initial report, police were told that the victim was washing his car on the roadway outside his home when several shots were heard. Residents called 911 and police and EMTs responded to the scene. The 911 emergency call blotter, posted online at the VITEMA website, showed a homicide call was received at 9:48 p.m. One minute later a call for Emergency Medical Services was received.

Medical personnel attended to the victim and took him to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by ambulance. The victim was pronounced dead a few minutes after 10:30 p.m. by medical staff.

This case is under investigation by detectives from the department’s Major Crime bureau. Police are urging anyone who was in the area and saw anything in relation to the shooting to call police and report.

“We need the community’s help to solve this fatal shooting," said St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island Police Chief Darren Foy. "Someone who was in the area saw something, heard something or knows something. It’s important that you tell what you know to any law enforcement officer you know and trust; tell the detectives who are working the case or call Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip. When the community comes forward with information, this helps protect the community from future crime."

Information can be reported by calling detectives at 1-340-775-3445 or 1-340-775-2410, 911 or the anonymous tip service Crime Stoppers V.I at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Update: This updates an earlier version of the story, adding the name of the victim and providing information and confirmation from the Virgin Islands Police Department.
