Alice Estella George Chinnery Dies at 85

Alice Estella George ChinneryThe family of Mrs. Alice Estella George Chinnery, lovingly known as Stella, sadly announce her passing on Monday, May 6, at the Schneider Regional Medical Center after a very brief illness. She was 85.
Mrs. Chinnery, wife of the late Wallace Chinnery, was born and reared on Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Island. She was a long-time resident of the Hospital Ground Community before returning with her husband to Jost Van Dyke.
On St. Thomas, she was a very dedicated member of the Christ Church Methodist 6:30 a.m. congregation. On Jost Van Dyke, she was a member of the Jost Van Dyke Methodist Church’s United Sisters as well as a member of the church choir.
Very recently, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Rhoda Callwood and Amae Akins. She leaves to mourn her stepson, Sherman Chinnery; brothers: Carlton and Ludrick George; and sister, Edith Milliner. Also mourning is her very special niece and caregiver, Celeste Blyde and husband David. Other survivors include nieces Celma George, Linet Akins Harley, Lelas Akins, Linda Akins, Lorraine (Lolo) Milliner, Sharlene Milliner Martin, Maureen Milliner, Brenda and Glenda Callwood; nephews: Keven and Kevis George, Lindel and Lucien Akins Jr., Cecil, Cedric and Luther Milliner, Glenn and Gary Callwood, Pedito (Rock) and Elroy (Ellie Bear) George; great nieces: Khalilah and Devany Blyden, Kysha Wallace, Sakeena, Malika and Rashidah George-Davis, Telka Harley Christian, Leniece Akins, Sherene Fonseca, LaShea Martin, Takiya Almestica, Nyeeba (Beba) Milliner, Kishwa Milliner, Kanisha (Jovi) Milliner-Dorset, Shauné Henley-Walker and Shavon Henley-Hodge;and great-nephews: Kirschan and David Blyden III, Khalil and Kareeb George, Dvaughn Neville, LaRue and LaMar Martin, and Elroy (Ellie) Henley.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to the Davis Funeral Home. The first viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at the Davis Funeral Home on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Second viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Jost Van Dyke Methodist Church in Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke, with services beginning at 11a.m.
Transportation to and from Jost Van Dyke will be provided by Inter-Island Boat Service — departing the Red Hook Dock at 8 a.m. and departing Great Harbour at 4 p.m.
