One-Car Accident Claims Life of Victim

A one-car accident early Sunday resulted in the death of 22-year-old Raymond A. Reyes, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Police were notified of a vehicle fire at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived on the scene in Estate Plessen near the Get & Go gas station, they saw the vehicle, a green four-door Mitsubishi, on fire. Near the vehicle on the ground was the unresponsive body of the victim.

Members of the Fire Department extinguished the blaze and EMTs transported the victim to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers from the Traffic Enforcement unit on St. Croix said the vehicle was southbound on Route 705 when it collided with a tree on the east side of the street. The vehicle then traveled across the road from east to west and caught fire.

Reyes was the only person in the car, police said. There were no other injuries.
