Man Arrested as Police Investigate Weapons Cases

Police on St. Thomas are investigating two separate firearm-related crimes. No one was injured in the unrelated incidents and one person was arrested, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.

At a few minutes after 2 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to investigate a call of shots being fired in the area of Metropolis Night Club. Officers inspecting the area collected several spent shell casings on the road in the vicinity of the club.

Witnesses told police that several individuals were firing shots in the area and then fled the scene heading east in a blue vehicle. Police searched unsuccessfully for the car.

The case will be followed up by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

In another case, police arrested 23-year-old Liston Cantios and charged him with third-degree assault, first-degree burglary and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police said Cantios was identified as the person who broke into a victim’s apartment and assaulted the victim with a knife on April 2. When Cantios was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police said he was found to be in possession of a firearm.

His bail was set at $100,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
