Inmates Charged with Stabbing Fellow Prisoner

Two inmates at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility were arrested at the prison and charged with first-degree assault in the nonfatal stabbing of another inmate, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to the report, the stabbing took place about 10 a.m. Saturday. Prison officials told police that two inmates, 23-year-old Akeem Williams and 19-year-old Josayo Williams assaulted another male inmate while they were at the water cooler inside the facility.

Corrections officers intervened and secured the suspects inside their cells while the injured inmate was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The victim appeared to be stabbed several times in his torso and arms, police said.

The two suspects were charged with first-degree assault and placed on a $75,000 bail each. They were remanded back to Golden Grove pending subsequent court appearances.
