Man Arrested After Domestic Violence Stabbing

A Prindsen Gade women was stabbed in her back and shoulder Monday in an incident police are investigating as an act of domestic violence, the V.I Police Department reported Tuesday.

A suspect, Andrew I. Julien, the father of the victim’s children, was arrested several hours later after a standoff in the house with officers, the police said.

Police were dispatched to the residence at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. The 41-year-old female victim told police that she had recently ended her relationship with Julien, but when she arrived home he was in the house.

When she began speaking to him, she said, he pulled out a knife from his pocket and told her, “If I can’t have you, no one will. I am going to cut your face.”

According to the police, the victim said Julien started to swing the knife toward her and she covered her face and turned her back while screaming at him to keep away. The victims’ teenage son intervened and the victim was able to run to a neighbor who called the police.

When police arrived Julien allegedly barricaded himself in the home and threatened to harm himself. Police were able to enter the residence using a key from the landlord. They removed the suspect from the home. Julien had self-inflicted cuts on his wrists and neck and told police he drank bleach and household cleaner.

Julien and the victim were both taken to the Schneider Regional Hospital. Police arrested 51-year-old Julien at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday. He was charged with third-degree assault/domestic violence and held without bail, according to the domestic violence laws.
