Police Investigate Pair of Weekend Incidents

Police on St. Croix are investigating a pair of unrelated cases that took place over the weekend, the V.I.P.D. reported.

• A man told police that at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in Barren Spot he was at a party at a residence when he went outside and stood on the road along with several other people. The victim told police that an unknown man with a black mask over his face and carrying a black handgun approached him and said, “Give me everything.”

The victim said the man took his chain from around his neck and just walked away with it. He said the chain was a gold Cuban link chain with a lion’s head valued at about $1,900.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.

• Police are investigating a vehicle fire that occurred early Saturday in the Marley housing community.

Police were dispatched to the fire at about 4:25 a.m. The vehicle was engulfed in flames when police arrived and firefighters were on the scene. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Fire officials classified the fire as arson. There was evidence that gasoline was thrown on the vehicle at several locations, they said. The victim told police she did not know why anyone would set her car on fire.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau are following up on this case.
