The Benray Lumberjacks, Seaborne Stealers and National Guard Hummers all won decisively on Tuesday in the Bob Owens one-pitch Softball League at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. The Lumberjacks pounded the Anchor Dive Pirates, 18-10; in a rematch of the regular league finals, the Seaborne Stealers hammered the Hummers, 21-10, in game two; and the Hummers came back in game three to crush the Collanni & Collanni Enforcers, 17-5, in part two of their doubleheader.
Lumberjacks 18, Pirates 10
The Lumberjacks got off to a fast start against the Anchor Dive Pirates on their way to an 18-10 victory. It was the Lumberjacks with 18 runs on 20 hits and three errors, while the Pirates had 10 runs on 13 hits and four errors.
Greg Miller III got the win on the hill for the Jacks and Edwin Sankitts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Miller (4 for 4 with a homerun and six RBIs) and Asim Shillingford (3 for 3 with three RBIs). For the Pirates, Mario Simmonds went 3 for 3 with two homeruns and six RBIs.
Stealers 21, Hummers 10
The Seaborne Stealers used some timely hitting to blow what was once a close game wide open in the late innings to knock out the Hummers in a 10-run mercy-ruled shellacking.
The Stealers pounded out 23 hits to amass their 21 runs while committing just two errors. The Hummers finished with 10 runs on 12 hits and four errors. Sam Ramos was the winning pitcher and Roman Cruz got the loss.
Top batters for the winners were Enrique Soto (2 for 4 with a homerun and three RBIs) and Dave Schjang (4 for 5 with a homerun and four RBIs). For the Hummers, Arthur Canaii went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Hummers 17, Enforcers 5
The Hummers bounced back from the game two pounding from the Stealers to deal out some punishment of their own by stomping the Enforcers, 17-5, in game three.
It was the Hummers with 17 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while the Enforcers finished with five runs on nine hits and four errors. Stanley Jones was the winning pitcher and Javier Carpio got the loss.
Top batters for the winners were Sylvester Blake and DeShawn Brown who were both 2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs. For the Enforcers, Clayton Pollock was 2 for 2 with a homerun and two RBIs, and Dave Wentz was 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
