McHappy Day Raises Money for V.I. Children’s Charities

McDonald’s announced that $4,281 was raised as a result of their 2012 USVI McHappy Day Campaign, a company-wide initiative to raise funds to assist local children’s charities.
The 2012 McHappy Day funds were received by the Therapy Association and Disability Advocates (TADA) on St. Thomas, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children on St. Croix. TADA’s volunteer occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists and associated allied professionals promote awareness and understanding of individuals with disabilities, advocate for their outreach, and provide therapy and services for children and families in need. CASA trains volunteers who are appointed by the court to advocate during court proceedings for children who have been abused and neglected.
The McHappy Day campaign on St. Thomas raised $2,444 for TADA and $1,837 for CASA on St Croix. Funds were raised through the sale of paper hands to the community, corporate donations, and on McHappy Day, Nov. 16, all proceeds from the sale of all Big Macs were donated.
Kelly Krause, a founding member of TADA and active therapist, was grateful to McDonald’s and the community. “On behalf of TADA and the children of the Virgin Islands, I would like to thank McDonald’s and the community for their support. The funds donated from McHappy Day will allow us to purchase therapy equipment for children and families in need.”
Gail Shearer, executive director for CASA said, “We are so thankful for the contribution that McDonald’s is making to our organization through this initiative. It will allow us to continue to help abused and neglected children in need, navigate the legal system.”
McHappy Day 2013 is set for Friday, Nov. 15, although the program of activities will begin much earlier in hopes of surpassing the proceeds raised from 2012.
