BIR Reminds Businesses About Excise Taxes Due on Post Office Packages

The business community is reminded that items imported into the territory via the United States Postal Service are subject to excise tax, according to a press release issued by the V.I. Bureau of Internal Revenue on Friday. The bureau has previously sent several reminders to taxpayers regarding the shipments received via the postal service.
“Business owners are expected to file and pay the correct amount of excise tax due within 30 days following the month that the item was imported,” BIR Director Claudette Watson-Anderson said.
Excise tax returns are available at all bureau offices. Taxpayers with questions about the excise taxes should contact Glenford Hodge or Gayle Galloway at 776-3740.
