Public Safety and Enforcement Forum on Thursday

Focusing on how our environment, laws, government policies and social norms have contributed to elevated levels of crime in the territory, Downtown Revitalization Inc. will hold a forum on public safety and enforcement Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of the Virgin Islands Administration Building Conference Center.

Representatives of law enforcement, the judicial system and community coalitions will explore ways to achieve a more comprehensive and effective approach to public safety. They will and speak and take suggestions about interagency enforcement efforts, the use of electronic surveillance mechanisms and how the homeless and/or persons with mental health or substance abuse problems impact public safety.

Issues such as gun violence, crime, juvenile delinquency, illegal drugs and high poverty rates will be discussed.
