The members of the 30th Legislature of the Virgin Islands will be sworn into office with pomp and ceremony Jan. 14 on the David Monsanto Bandstand in Emancipation Garden on St. Thomas.
The individuals elected to serve as members of the 30th Legislature are Craig Barshinger, Judi Fricks-Buckley, Diane Capehart, Donald Cole, Kenneth Gittens, Clifford Graham, Alicia Hansen, Myron Jackson, Shawn-Michael Malone, Terrence Nelson, Nereida Rivera O’Reilly, Clarence Payne, Tregenza Roach, Sammuel Sanes and Janette Millin-Young. All members are inviting the entire Virgin Islands community to come out and witness all public events that will welcome in the 30th Legislature.
Ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. with an invitation-only Ecumenical Church Service at the Frederick Lutheran Evangelical Church just north of Emancipation Garden. This will be followed at 10 a.m. by the swearing-in ceremony in Emancipation Garden. Then the senators will take a short walk over to Capitol Building for the final event, the formal organization of the 30th Legislature – scheduled to start at noon in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall.
Residents of St. John and St. Croix will also have an opportunity to welcome the lawmakers into service. On Sunday, Jan. 13, the St. John community is invited to a 4 p.m. church service at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Cruz Bay, which will be followed at 5 p.m. with a meet and greet at the St. John Legislative Annex.
St. Croix will play host to the 30th Legislature Wed. Jan. 16, with an ecumenical church service 10 a.m. in the Friedensberg Moravian Church in Frederiksted, and an 11:15 a.m. meet and greet at the St. Croix Legislative Complex.
