Two Arrested for Fatal March Hit and Run

Detectives from the Traffic Investigation Bureau on St. Croix arrested two people in connection with a March 12 hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.

Gregory Marcus, 49, was arrested Friday, and Jazmin Linares, 32, was arrested Monday. Both were charged with negligent homicide, the police said.

According to the police, the accident took place on Queen Mary Highway near the Crusaders Nightclub entrance and the Williams Delight Laundromat.

Officers arriving at the scene reported finding a 40-year-old man who had been struck by a vehicle. He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel. Witnesses told police they saw a gold or light-colored car that was heading east hit the victim, turn around and flee in a westerly direction. The vehicle did not stop, witnesses said.

Police appealed to the public for information on this vehicle or any vehicle fitting the description that might have been undergoing body work to repair front end damage. Owners of a local body shop told police they might know about the vehicle.

Police were able to recover the vehicle and ran forensic tests that indicated that it was the vehicle that hit the pedestrian.

Bail for both suspects was set at $25,000 each. They were remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adults Correctional Facility.
