Officers on saturated patrol Sunday arrested a St. Croix man after he was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm in his pocket, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to the preliminary report, Frederiksted Bike Unit officers, along with officers conducting saturated patrol in Frederiksted, were following up on a first-degree robbery case that had occurred earlier that day.
While inspecting the beach area near the Marley Housing community, police observed a group of men and noticed that one, later identified as 31-year-old Chris Vernon Huggins, began to run when he saw the officers.
Officers apprehended Huggins and reported finding a loaded 9 mm handgun in his pants pocket.
Huggins was placed under arrest and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, failure to report a firearm, and possession or sale of ammunition. He was placed on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
