Police on Proactive Patrols Arrest Eight

Eight men were arrested recently by police officers conducting proactive initiatives, including traffic checkpoints and saturated patrols, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

While conducting a traffic checkpoint at 9 p.m. Nov. 28 near the intersections of Brookman’s Road, Nick Friday Drive and Turpentine Road, officers tried to stop a vehicle. Police said the driver increased speed in an attempt to evade the officers, who gave chase. The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle and ran into a bushy area, but officers searched for, found and arrested him.

According to the police report, the suspect was identified as James Donavan.

About an hour later the same night, officers arrested seven men in various locations in Red Hook. Officers reported they saw the men selling and smoking marijuana in the public area. The individuals arrested were Nasif Elshabazz, Jabari Hodge, Ronald Moorhead, Ian Maxwell, Zachary Nelthrop, Adam Fuller, Randy Williams and Shane Fredericks.

St. Thomas/St. John Chief of Police Darren Foy said the proactive patrols are achieving their objectives of preventing and reducing crime and those patrols will continue.
