Division of Personnel Announces Candidates for Employee Rep Seats on GESC Board

The candidates vying for election to serve on the Government Employees Service Commission (GESC) Group Health Insurance Board are:
St. Thomas: Gary A. Smith, Department of Health; Andre T. Dorsey, V.I. Fire Service; Donna Frett-Gregory, Department of Education; and Darien L. Wheatley, Department of Justice.
St. Croix: John Abramson Jr., Election System of the Virgin Islands; Patricia G. Oliver, Department of Education; and Beverly Joseph, Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
Title 3 of the Virgin Islands Code Section 6(b) requires the representation of one employee from the district of St. Thomas-St. John, and one from the district of St. Croix, to serve on the GESC/Health Insurance Board. The two members shall be democratically chosen by other government employees. This year, employees will have two options to cast their vote. Employees will be able to vote via the Internet or by phone in a secure, convenient and confidential manner. The voting window will open on Dec. 13, at 12:01 a.m. and will close at noon on Dec. 14. Additional information relative to the voting process may be obtained from each respective department or agency’s Human Resources Officer, according to a press release issued Friday by the Virgin Islands Division of Personnel.
Director Kenneth L. Hermon Jr. said, “This is an opportunity for all government employees covered by the Group Health Insurance Program to actively take part in the elections by casting their vote for the candidate of their choice. Employees may visit the Division of Personnel’s Web site at www.dopusvi.org to view candidate information to aid them in determining which candidate to select to serve as employee representative on the Group Health Insurance Board, based on the candidate’s experience and credentials.”
