A family dispute burst out of control early Saturday, and in the aftermath one person was dead and and another charged with first-degree murder, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The suspect, who police identified as Anthony Lloyd, was arrested less than two hours after the crime.
It was the 51st homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the 27th on St. Croix.
Police were called to a home in Estate Mon Bijou just a few minutes before 7 a.m., where they were told that screams were coming from the residence. When police investigated, they found the unresponsive body of the victim, later identified as 56-year-old Languedoc Ainsworth.
The victim had several puncture wounds on his body.
During the investigation, officers tracked down 27-year-old Anthony Lloyd at a residence in Estate Smithfield and identified him as a person of interest. Upon further investigation, Lloyd was arrested about 8 a.m. the same day and charged. A large kitchen knife was also recovered. Police believe that the knife may have been used in the murder.
Detectives said the victim was dating the suspect’s mother.
“This killing was not a random act. This was a family dispute between the victim and the suspect that turned deadly," an unnamed detective reported.
