An inmate of the Golden Grove Correctional Facility was arrested following a nonfatal stabbing that occurred at about 9 a.m. Friday in the prison shower, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to the initial report, a corrections officer told police he was taking an inmate to the shower when another inmate, identified as Jahleed Ward, charged at them. Ward allegedly stabbed the inmate several times in his chest, according to the report.
Officers retrieved the weapon, a one-foot-long sharpened metal shank.
The victim was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Ward was charged with first-degree assault.
The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
