Police investigating a domestic disturbance call on St. Croix Tuesday discovered several deadly weapons in the home, according to the V.I. Police Department.
Police confiscated three handguns and several boxes of ammunition from the home. One firearm was found under the mattress of a minor who was living in the home, the police reported.
Officers responded to a 911 call of a domestic disturbance at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in Estate Strawberry, where a woman in the home told police that Akeem S. Matthew, 21, bit her and assaulted her.
Police arrested Matthew and removed him from the home. Officers were told there were weapons in the home and secured a search warrant. Returning to the home, police searched and found two handguns, one semi automatic handgun and several boxes of ammunition.
Police said one of the handguns was found under the mattress of a minor who also resided in the home. The minor was turned over to the Juvenile Investigation Bureau.
Matthew was arrested and charges with aggravated assault and battery/domestic violence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of ammunition and failure to report firearms obtained outside or brought into the Virgin Islands.
He was held without bail because of the domestic violence charges.
