St. Croix Environmental Association Plans Activities With 3rd-6th Graders

The St. Croix Environmental Association, in partnership with the Virgin Islands Network of Environmental Educators, has announced an event for 3rd – 6th graders at Charles H. Emanuel Elementary School to explore careers in science. Explore Careers in Science will take place from 8:45-10:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. The event is organized by the St. Croix Environmental Association, and eight local agencies will set up a table for classes to visit.
Lynnea Roberts, SEA’s Environmental Education Coordinator stated, “Students will hear personal stories about what makes the presenter’s job fun, interesting and important to St. Croix. We hope this event will motivate students to do their best in their science class and begin to explore the possibility of a career in a science field. This is the first time we’ve organized a career event at an elementary school, and we are looking forward to it! Last year, VINE members visited classes at Charles H. Emanuel to give a brief presentation about their career. The students and presenters enjoyed it so much that we decided to give it more of a ‘career fair feel’ this year. Presenters will set up in the grade level wings so that students can rotate through the different stations.” The school is organizing other presenters to visit the K-2nd graders in the afternoon.
Participating agencies:
3rd and 4th Grades 5th and 6th Grades
UVI Marine Advisory Services Seven Seas Water Corporation
DPNR – Fish and Wildlife St. Croix East End Marine Park
National Park Service, The Nature Conservancy
The St. Croix Avian Sanctuary, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service
