UVI Hosts 15th Annual Islands In Between Conference

The 15th Annual Islands In Between Conference (IIBC) 2012 is being hosted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, to Saturday, Nov. 10, at the University of the Virgin Islands.The conference is being collaboratively sponsored and organized by the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, the University of the West Indies- Cave Hill, Barbados, the University of the Virgin Islands in celebration of its’ 50th Jubilee Year, Sankofa Saturdays
Youth Cultural Education Initiative and Per Ankh Institute of the Virgin Islands. All live events are being held in the UVI-St. Thomas campus’ Administration Conference Center (ACC) and will be available via videoconference from the Great Hall on the Albert Sheen UVI St. Croix campus. All events are free to the UVI and the V.I. community.
Activities are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, Nov. 8: Conference Day (UVI-ACC)
8-9 a.m.: (and continuing): Registration
9-10 a.m.: Opening
10-10:30 a.m.: Tea Break
10:30-11:30 a.m.: Keynote Speaker 1:Dr. Lois Hassell-Habtes
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 1 and 2
12:30-2:30 p.m.: Lunch (paid for individually by participants)
2:30-3:30 p.m. Parallel Sessions 3 and 4
3:30-4:30 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 5 and 6
4:30-5:00 p.m.: Tea Break
5-6 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 7 and 8
6-7:30 p.m.: Business Meeting and Book Launches
8 p.m.: Conference Dinner at a Local Restaurant
Friday, Nov. 9 Conference Day 2 (UVI-ACC)
Complimentary Breakfast (provided by VICCC Project)
8:30-10:30 a.m.: Virgin Islands Caribbean Cultural Center (VICCC) Panel
Official Launch
10:30-11 a.m.: Tea Break (sponsored by VICCC Project)
11 a.m. – Noon: Keynote Speaker 2: Mary Ann Christopher
Noon-1 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 9 and 10
1-2:30 p.m.: COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH (provided by VICCC Project)
2:30-3:45 p.m.: Parallel PANEL Sessions 11 and 12
3:45-4:45 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 13 and 14
4:45-5:15 p.m.: Tea Break (sponsored by VICCC Project)
5:15-6 p.m.: Parallel Sessions 15 and 16
6-7:30 p.m.: Cultural Event at Conference Venue
8 p.m.: Buffet Dinner and Calypso at Emerald Beach Resort
Saturday, Nov. 10 Conference Day 3 (UVI-ACC)
9-10 a.m.: Parallel Sessions 17 and 18
10-11 a.m.: Parallel Sessions 19 and 20
11 a.m.- Noon: Parallel Sessions 21 and 22
(Lunch arranged by individual participants)
2:30-6 p.m. Cultural History Tour (St. Thomas Backstreet Tour)
(participants must reserve and pre-pay)
