V.I. Port Authority Conducts Emergency Evacuation Drill at King Airport

The Virgin Islands Port Authority’s (VIPA) airport operations staff and VIPA police will conduct an emergency airport terminal evacuation drill at the Cyril E. King Airport Terminal around 9:45 a.m. on St. Thomas on Tuesday, Oct. 30, and conclude around 11 a.m., according to a press release issued Monday by the V.I. Port Authority.
The purpose of the drill is to evaluate and test communications, evacuation and operations to include: VIPA operations, airport tenants and the timeliness of first responders. VIPA Executive Director David W. Mapp said that he does not want the public to be alarmed during the exercise. He added that the drill was designed to have as little disruption on passenger processing and tenant or airport operations as possible. Only airport terminal tenants will be evacuated; travelers will be allowed to stay in the terminal and continue processing, according to Mapp.
