Voters can get information, in candidates’ own words, on plans to address the status of utilities, healthcare and issues regarding the sustainability of GERS. AARP VI has released the 2012 Voters’ Guides at www.bit.ly/VIGuide. The guide features candidate responses to key questions on issues impacting every voter in the territory.
“For many years, AARP VI has worked to make sure that candidates address the issues important to older voters and that these voters make informed decisions at the polls on Nov. 6,” said AARP VI State Director Dencye Singleton. AARP VI Voters’ Guide brings nonpartisan, straightforward information on important issues.
AARP’s federal Voters’ Guide poses three questions on Utilities, Healthcare and Pensions:
• Will you oppose legislation that would require utility customers to pre-pay for utility investments such as power plants and transmission lines, before those investments are built and serving customers?
• Will you oppose reform legislation that limits access to defined benefit plans or reduces promised benefits and Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) for existing workers or retirees?
• What programs would you support to improve the quality and lower the cost of healthcare in the Virgin Islands?
The responses, which appear alongside AARP principles on each issue, consist of publicly available information and excerpts from candidates’ campaign sources. Voters can enter their address to see responses not only from senatorial candidates.
