Lady Nix, Escojidos Take Bush League Wins Sunday

The Lady Nix and the Escojidos were both winners in their respective female and male divisions on Sunday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. The Lady Nix took down Nuff Experience, 2-1, in a women division pitching duel between veteran Marie Encarnacion and Sherry Simmonds, while the male division leading Escojidos outlasted Lockdown, 7-5.

Lady 2, Nuff Experience 1

A pitching duel between two of St. Croix’s top veteran pitchers, Encarnacion and Simmonds, developed in the opening contest on Sunday as the top two teams in the women’s division locked horns. When the dust cleared it was Encarnacion pitching to the 2-1 victory.

Lady Nix had five runs on seven hits and five costly Nuff Experience errors, while the latter finished with one run on five hits and two errors.

Top batter for Lady Nix was Joeanna Dongar (2 for 3). For Nuff Experience, Inocencia Bermudez was 1 for 2 with one RBI.

Escojidos 7, Lockdown 5

In the men’s division, Escojidos continued strong play as they outlasted Lockdown Squad, 7-5.

It was the Escojidos with seven runs on 12 hits and two errors while Lockdown had five runs on 10 hits and two errors.

Herminio Velasquez got the win on the hill for Escojidos, while Juan Belardo got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Tony Cruz (3 for 4 with three RBIs), Fernando Quezada (3 for 4 with two RBIs) and Patrica Smith (2 for 2). For Lockdown, Jose Robles was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jose Burgos was 2 for 4 with one RBI.
