Orientations for new students are under way in the St. Thomas-St. John district, and the fall school year is just around the corner. The following schools announce their openings and dates of orientation:
Addelita Cancryn Junior High:
New student orientation sessions on Thursday at 4 p.m. for eighth-graders with last names beginning A-H; continuing at 5:30 p.m. for last names I-Z.
On Friday, new seventh-graders with last names A-H should report for orientation, while those with last names I-Z should report at 4 p.m.
All orientation sessions will be held in the school’s cafeteria.
Students must come dressed in full uniform, be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be ready to pay $17 for insurance, $10 for ID (if they don’t already have one) and $22 for their P.E. uniform.
Guy Benjamin School:
Orientation will be held Friday from 8:30–9:30 a.m. for parents only.
Julius E. Sprauve School:
On Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Julius Sprauve faculty and staff holds its back-to-school meeting.
Orientation sessions will be held on Friday, with K-3 students and parents at 9 a.m.; fourth- to sixth-grade students and parents at 10 :30 a.m.; and seventh- and eighth-grade students and parents beginning at 1 p.m.
All students must be dressed in school uniform and accompanied by their parent or guardian.
E. Benjamin Oliver Elementary:
School orientation is scheduled for Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. All students must be dressed in full uniform.
Gladys A. Abraham Elementary:
All new students in grades first to sixth are asked to report to the school’s cafetorium on Friday at 8 a.m. Parents must accompany their children and be ready to pay all necessary school fees at this time. Parents are also asked to bring their child’s immunization records and admittance slips.
All kindergarten students will attend an orientation session at 10:30 a.m. in the cafetorium.
All returning students are asked to report to school on the first official day of classes Tuesday. School begins at 7:45 a.m. and is dismissed at 2:45 p.m.
Joseph Gomez Elementary:
Returning students are asked to check the appropriate roster on opening day, Tuesday, and report to their classrooms promptly at 8 a.m.
New students are also asked to report to the cafeteria at 8 a.m., while kindergarten students are asked to report to the library at 8:15 a.m.
Leonard Dober Elementary:
On Tuesday, beginning at 7:50 a.m., parents, students, teachers and staff will gather for orientation. Parents are asked to bring $17 for school insurance, $20 for a P.E. uniform and an updated immunization record for their child.
Ulla F. Muller Elementary:
Kindergarten students and their parents will gather for registration and an orientation meeting Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria . At this time, registration will also be held for new students.
On Sept. 6 at 8 a.m. in the assembly area under the tent, all primary students and their parents are to report for an orientation meeting.
Intermediate students and their parents are to report for an orientation meeting Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. under the tent.
All students must be dressed in full school uniform and bring an up-to-date immunization card and $17 for insurance (or an insurance card if covered).
Kindergartners and new students must also bring an official placement letter from the Curriculum Center.
Yvonne Millner-Bowsky Elementary:
Orientation begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the school’s cafeteria for all new students and parents.
All returning students and parents will attend an orientation session at 7:45 a.m. in their assigned classrooms.
Parents must come prepared to pay $17 for insurance, $20 for P.E. uniforms and $10 for PTA dues.
