VING Joint Forces Cycling Team Sponsors Road Race

The Virgin Islands National Guard Joint Forces Cycling team will host a road race from 7-10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, at Fort Frederik in Frederiksted.
The Angel Encarnacion Road Race will begin at Fort Frederik and continue on through downtown Frederiksted, on to Queen Mary Highway, through La Grange and back to Fort Frederik, in a four and-a-half mile lap. The race distances are 18 miles; 36 miles and 54 miles.
The VING Joint Forces Cycling Team is part of the V.I. Cycling Federation. Both groups sponsor four bike races annually. This particular race has been an annual event for more than six years.
“We’re inviting all cyclists to come out and support this event, whether you compete regularly or not,” said Chief Warrant Officer Mervin Mills. “You can complete a controlled lap with an escort.”
Members of the VING Recruiting and Retention Battalion will be in attendance to support the event with promotional items and refreshments.
For more information on the event, contact Chief Warrant Officer Mervin Mills, the captain of the Joint Forces Cycling Team at 712-7931, or Bevern Sage, co-captain of the team at 332-6282.
