2012 Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Pageant Set for August 12

The Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization Inc. announces its ninth scholarship pageant to crown 2012 Miss Virgin Islands scheduled to take place during a luncheon at noon on Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Ritz Carlton. The pageant is sponsored by International Capital & Management Company.
This year’s pageant will be hosted by 2004 Miss America, Ericka Dunlap. Four beautiful and talented young ladies from the community, who are committed to higher education, community service and the performing arts, will be vying for the title of 2012 Miss Virgin Islands. They are: Aniska Tonge of St. Thomas, a 21-year-old graduate of the University of South Florida; Shakirah Ritter of St. Croix, a 19-year-old sophomore at the University of the Virgin Islands; Cathriellah Shabazz of St. Croix, a 19-year-old beginning freshman at the University of the Virgin Islands; and Ashley Massiah of St. Croix, a 20-year-old junior at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The newly crowned Miss Virgin Islands will compete in the 2013 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Planet Hollywood Theatre. The show will be televised on the ABC television network.
This year, $12,500 in scholarships awards will be announced, with all funds raised in the local community. The Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization, a not-for-profit entity, has disbursed more than $120,686 in scholarship awards since 2004. All funding awards are made directly to the
institution of higher learning.
There is limited seating for the luncheon performance of the pageant. Tickets are $50 each, including a plated lunch, and can be purchased by contacting Cynthia Jerry at cynthiajerry@yahoo.com. No tickets will be available at the door.
