V.I. Scholars Host Second Annual Expert Series Event

The V.I. Scholars Summer Leadership Institute will host its second-annual Expert Series (ES) event on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Windward Passage Hotel on St. Thomas. V.I. Scholars is an organization that works with high school youth to develop them into future Virgin Islands leaders, empowering them to effectuate positive change within their local community. Every year, the Expert Series features panel discussions and individual speeches given by renowned experts from the V.I. community and abroad. With topics ranging from law and order to the importance of obtaining a higher education degree, from entrepreneurship to social networking and healthy media consumption, the event will educate the audience – high school participants in the VI Scholars program, their families, and educators from the VI community – about critical local issues, methods to remedy such issues and opportunities to make an impact.
This year’s prominent speakers include: Justice James Carroll of the Virgin Islands Superior Court; James Kenefick, two-time finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award; James Steyer, Stanford University professor of political science and founding CEO of Common Sense Media; and Dr. LaVerne Ragster, former president of the University of the Virgin Islands.
This year, the V.I. Scholars Expert Series is open to the entire community. All participants and their families will be in attendance, and any others are warmly encouraged to attend as well. An RSVP is
mandatory at the following site: http://vischolars-es.eventbrite.com/.
Come hear about local issues facing the Virgin Islands, ways in which your children can enter into the top universities in the United States, and methods by which you yourself can get involved with amazing vocational and entrepreneurial opportunities on the Virgin Islands. Enjoy refreshments while talking to individuals at the top of their respective fields. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how you too can become successful.
For additional information, feel free to contact the V.I. Scholars Summer Leadership Institute by phone (642-3377) or e-mail (contact@vischolars.org). Visit the Web site at http://vischolars-es.eventbrite.com/ to RSVP and to learn more.
