Second Annual Teens Anti-Alcohol Debate Planned for August 4

The Central and Hope Seventh-day Adventist Churches in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Planning Commission (LEPC) and the V.I. Office of Highway Safety are proactively involved in training young people to recognize the dangers of alcohol drinking and driving, drug abuse and misuse, and to empower them to lead other young people into making wise choices against this lethal and evil practice.
The sponsors will be hosting its second annual anti-alcohol debate at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Central SDA Church, Frederiksted. This program will feature several young people from the community addressing an affirmative issue at hand in our territory: “Be it resolved that changing the underage drinking law in the Virgin Islands from 18 to 21 years would provide consequential benefits to our society on a whole.”
Both public and private high school students, parents and law-makers will be attending the debate. Pastor Wilmoth James and the youth group “Too Smart to Start” are determined to inform and warn the youth, adults and family circles of our community of the impending dangers of alcohol drinking and driving, and to provide them with good choices for success in their spiritual, physical, mental and social being.
We are cordially extending this invitation to the public to come out in support of an affirmative action forge by our youths as they speak to issues that confront our societies.
